Trails and Detours in Langtang, Nepal, 2010

Langtang is easily accessible from Kathmandu.

I trekked with a young guide, Ketam, and a porter, Titra.

The trekking route goes up a gorge towards the Upper Langtang. I decided to explore an area branching off to it, “The Tamang Heritage Trail.” Stepping off the main route is also a way to support underserved communities. Although their living conditions were minimal, their welcome was very warm.

My heart broke in 2015 when I heard that the entire upper Langtang had been buried with a huge landslide during the earthquake. They have been rebuilding, showing once more a tremendous resilience.

My story with Ketam would not stop here. See “The Manaslu Balcony “ trek.
